Whether you’re taking your first steps on a mat or are a regular practitioner, we’re delighted to welcome you to our haven of peace in La Preneuse.
At Om Shanti Shala, we believe that yoga is much more than a series of poses: it is an inner journey in tune with the rhythm of Mauritian nature. Between the ocean breeze and the golden light of the sunset, we have created a space for you to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with what truly matters.
‘Here, we don’t seek the perfect pose; we seek the right feeling. Come as you are, leave feeling a little lighter.’ — Patricia
Below you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your session with complete peace of mind. If you have any further questions, Patricia is available to assist you via WhatsApp.
Your Practice
Absolutely! No prior experience is required. Patricia adapts each session to the energy and level of the group. Just come along with an open mind.
We offer different style of yoga depending on the physical intensity and the desired outcome (energy, deep flexibility, self-care or the nervous system). If you need to promote energy flow and release muscle tension, Vinyasa Yoga and Myofacia Release are offered. If you need a more meditative and energetic approach, Yin Yoga and Yoga Therapy are for you. And if you need emotional resilience and total relaxation, Nervous System Rewire and Sound Bath are your solutions.
Mindful movement. This is a traditional and dynamic practice. It involves flowing through Hatha Yoga poses in sync with the breath. The aim: To stimulate the body’s energy system through movement. Who is it for? Those who enjoy moving and want to leave the session feeling energised.
Self-massage): Tissue release. Here, we use specialised balls to massage and release tension points. The aim: To release the fascia (connective tissue) and deep muscle tension. Who is it for? Ideal for complementing a sporting regime or relieving chronic stiffness.
Patience and openness. We hold floor-based poses for 3 to 5 minutes in a state of mindfulness. The aim: To work on the 12 main meridians and the organ system to open the body deeply. Who is it for? Those seeking to improve their flexibility and calm their mind.
Tailored care. A healing system using specific postures linked to the 5 elements of TCM and Taoist arts. The aim: To treat physical or emotional imbalances in the internal organs. It is a valuable complement to conventional medical care. Who is it for? For targeted therapeutic support.
Resilience in the Face of Stress. A specific approach to restoring a healthy and adaptable nervous system. The aim: To teach the body to respond effectively to stress (survival), then to quickly return to calm and grounding (homeostasis) once the threat has passed. Who is it for? For anyone experiencing stress or anxiety.
The final immersion. Used at the end of sessions during Shavasana. The aim: To use sound vibrations to deepen relaxation and support the integration of the session. Who is it for? A moment of pure relaxation for everyone.

On Site — Om Shanti Shala
The “Om Shanti” shala is located on Route de la Preneuse, Rivière Noire (90608), between La Mariposa Hotel and La Preneuse Public Beach. You can easily find us on Google Maps. Parking is available near the site.
Om Shanti is an “open shala”: a semi-open terrace in direct contact with nature. At the end of the day, you’ll practise facing the sunset. Please wear clothing suitable for the day’s weather.
Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothing and bring a bottle of water. All equipment (mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets) is provided on site.
We recommend arriving 5 minutes before the class starts so you can settle in at your leisure. Out of respect for other participants and except when informed in advance, latecomers will not be admitted once the session has begun.
The Black River area is one of the most beautiful corners of Mauritius. Just steps from the shala, you’ll find La Preneuse Public Beach — perfect for a swim before or after class. The region is also home to Black River Gorges National Park, ideal for hiking and birdwatching, as well as world-class spots for dolphin watching, kite surfing and snorkelling. The charming village of Chamarel with its seven-coloured earth and rum distillery is a short drive away. The nearby village of La Gaulette is a charming spot to explore, with its laid-back atmosphere, local shops and waterfront. Whether you’re looking for nature, adventure or simply a quiet beach, you’ll find it all within easy reach of Om Shanti.
